February 2003   RAWA handicrafts were placed in Nails Uptown for sale. February 20, 2003   The group held another showing of Renee's film, Sadaa E Zan. March 2003   International Women's Day was again celebrated with a table in De La Guerra Plaza at an event organized by Soroptimist Sunrise of Santa Barbara. April 16 to 18, 2003   Tahmeena Faryal, Foreign Affairs Representative for RAWA came to Santa Barbara as part of her U.S. Speaking tour. She spoke at UCSB, City College, and the downtown Library, where we also held a reception with authentic Afghan food created by Zarmina Niazi. Tahmeena was interviewed by local media, and treated to a dinner with the core group at Chef Karim's.   May 28, 2003   Renee presented a slide show from her trip to the residents of Garden Court, arranged by our wonderful supporter Sandy Smith. June 4, 2003   Briana and Ana attended the Fund for Santa Barbara Spring Grant Awards party at NU restaurant. June - September 2003   We continued to receive donations in the mail, and took a hiatus from our regular monthly meeting in July and August.   In August, we started a grass-roots postcard campaign to the White House, asking for the enactment of the Afghanistan Freedom Support Act, Bill S. 2712, which was signed into law in December of 2002.   The bill authorized $3.3 billion over four years for development and security assistance in Afghanistan. As of August 2003, this had not been enacted. August 20, 2003   We changed our Non-Profit sponsorship to International Humanities Center (IHC) September 27 & 28   We again participated in the Multi-Cultural Festival, with our wonderful volunteers "womaning" our booth! October 12, 2003   Briana and Board Secretary Sonja attended the Fund for Santa Barbara Bread & Roses fundraiser at the Santa Barbara Women's Club at Rockwood. October 25, 2003   Our member Steve Barger manned a table at U.N. Day at City College. November 2003   The group continued to meet and receive donations in the mail.   Members were asked to contribute $10 a month at meetings. December 2, 2003   Briana and Board President Jill Littlewood attended the Fund for Santa Barbara Year-end Awards party at SoHo Restaurant & Music Club. December 6, 2003   RAWA S.B. held it's fourth annual Bazaar of Afghan handicrafts, created again by Jill Littlewood & family. Sales were lower than the previous two years, but still contributed a significant amount to RAWA programs. Our friends, Zarmina Niazi and Ahmad Nasir of Beads of the Earth again helped out by contributing profits from the sale of their jewelry and carpets. December 10, 2003   The Board of Directors held a meeting where members decided to become more active in fund-raising, and assigned projects to everyone.
