Project for Peace
Dear RAWA Supporters,
I have an exciting new project to tell you about to offer you the opportunity to work for world peace! RAWA has invited me and our videographer, Viken Nokhoudian, to come to Pakistan and Afghanistan to produce a documentary about RAWA's visionary aid projects. As you know, RAWA's work includes operation of a hospital, mobile medical clinics, schools, orphanages, literacy programs, work for widows, civil reconstruction projects and aid to the poor.
Help stop terrorism at its root! By aiding a group of Afghan natives in bringing about social change within their country, you can help reshape it into a more peaceful, benign culture that will no longer be a haven for globally dangerous extremists. Young boys in RAWA orphanages and schools would otherwise end up in Madrassas, where they learn to hate women and the West, and learn only about the Koran and how to use weapons!
Help rebuild Afghanistan from the Inside! RAWA workers are native Afghans with programs all over Afghanistan, particularly in rural areas. Most foreign aid groups work only in Kabul, where it is safe. Other foreign aid groups have withdrawn their workers from the rest of Afghanistan due to security risks. RAWA is still there.
RAWA is instrumental in bringing about peaceful social change in Afghanistan, altering the future of their country so that it will no longer breed angry extremism. This has global impact, even improving the security of our nation and others targeted by such extremism. RAWA's efforts are an excellent example to other nations also striving to reform their societies from the inside, to expand exposure of humanist ideals and ethics where they are lacking. This documentary will explore the social changes brought about by RAWA and the means by which those changes are brought about. By bringing this to public view, we will be doing far more than just exposing or complaining about a problem; we will be demonstrating solutions.
I invite you to join me in creating this documentary that will be suitable for global distribution to raise awareness and support for this project for peace. The documentary will be shot in high-definition video to make it most appealing to high-end distribution channels, thereby garnering the greatest audience. I will be traveling to Pakistan and Afghanistan with Viken in April-May. We will visit RAWA headquarters in Islamabad, Pakistan, visit a hospital, school and orphanages in Rawalpindi, a literacy center and other projects in Peshawar, and a nearby refugee camp. In Afghanistan, we will visit projects in Kabul and Jalalabad, orphans and widows in Bamiyan, literacy courses and supporters in Mazar-e Sharif, supporters in Herat, and projects in Farah, including a school, orphanage and water canal project. (We are still raising money to open a new orphanage there.)
Our goal is to debut the film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. We will also of course offer a free screening for supporters and the public. Beyond that, we will seek distribution on PBS, Discovery and theater or DVD distribution. We will also sell videos to benefit RAWA. People in the U.S. will have an opportunity to view this documentary to understand the Afghanistan situation, perhaps even inspiring them to implement their own projects for peace.
Please join us in raising $15,000.00 to cover travel expenses, minor equipment costs, film and production of the documentary (including translation, musical scoring and purchase of historical footage.) Donors of $1,000 or more will be honored as co-producers in the film. ALL DONATIONS ARE WELCOME and are FULLY TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Please join me in reaching out for global peace to make our own community and nation more secure with kindness rather than bombs.
Warmest wishes for Peace,
